Performing & Reading

By | August 2, 2022

Hi there,

Still alive and kicking? Caring for your body?

Today, I am grateful that I woke up before my alarm clock. Alarm clock is invasive. Waking up before my alarm clock evokes a sense of victory: I am one step ahead the invasive noise. You Guardian for Silence and Peace report to duty!

Fellow victors, let’s commit to August. It is here. Let’s lighten the load for ourselves and go on uninhibited. Lose the excuses. Lose the embarrassment. Lose the self-judgment. What do you want to focus on this August?

I want to focus on reading. My goal is to finish two books: After Dark by Haruki Murakami & Thinking Fast & Slow by Daniel Kahneman. There are many good books to read. The only way that will increase my chance of enjoying them is by reading one sentence a time, one day at a time.

Right here is a good place to discuss either reading habits or the meta experience of reading. Let’s not go there.

Let’s talk about performing. I am performing for you right now. I imagine you reading the words. I imagine the minute movements of your fingers, eyeballs, and emotions. I consider the effect of my words. I write and rewrite each sentence to produce the desired clarity or lack thereof. Careful attention is placed in the choice of words, spacing and pace.

Performance is interactive. I write. You read. This dance can happen at any time and any place. I thoroughly enjoy performing for you. There is no performance more intimate, more powerful, more satisfying, and more transformative. Good writing is my gold.

Now, I’ve told you why it is important to read good words by telling you about performing. There are many a ways for me to tell you the same idea than the one I’ve chosen today.

My friends, this is why I love writing. The landscape is vast enough to play within for a lifetime: not a dull moment when I let myself show up and write – fully.

Parting question for you:
– In what area(s) of your life are you performing? Do you enjoy the process?

See you next week,
Xiaoyu

Now, your turn, any thoughts? I care to know.
