Alive

Her neighbor thought she had lost her marbles. She would sit on the front porch with a cup of tea for most of her day, looking at pedestrians and parallel parkers. She looks like she could use a hot meal and the hug of her husband.

Today, she saw a young black couple parking a navy blue prius. The guy was wearing a foot brace. He is at least six feet tall. He was walking with weight evenly distributed on both feet. He seemed happy. After his third try, he parked the car and got out, smiling. He walked over to the passenger side and opened the door for his lady. Now, there were two, smiling, in front of her, right in front of her. The couple held hands and walked towards the coffee shop direction. They didn’t notice her.

She set her cup on the ground, moved her fingers and fished for her mouth and her jaw, inch by inch, trying to feel a smile. Today, she was in his Saturday robe. It was his favorite robe, a black-n-white stripe kimono. She misses him and wishes she had been this alive while he was alive.

Now, your turn, any thoughts? I care to know.
