Ramble on a mid-winter night

Hi my reading friends,

How’s your week? Is it frosty or sunny?

One week into my deep winter hibernation, I am happy to report I have a cup of hot tea in my hand most of the time. And I burn my tongue every time. I have so much organizing to do. My thinking junk drawer needs serious decluttering. One at a time. Tonight, talented friends and boundaries are on my mind.

How much of your talent are you willing to share with the world? I have seriously talented friends who sing in a way that makes my body shiver. But they only sing to a small audience of close friends. What is more considerate? Sharing or not sharing? With whom? (This line of questioning is obviously not for those who over share and vomit their emotions all over the internet. )

The idea that we have to share or commodify our talents with a wider audience doesn’t sit right with me. But at the same time, it would be wonderful if more people could hear my friends sing. Ultimately, it comes down to the individual’s decision. As friends, we respect and support our friends’ decisions. Right?

Forcing someone to do things they don’t enjoy is like forcing a man to eat what he doesn’t want to – unnecessary and diabolical(?). It destroys something beautiful. Unless, the friend is seeking help or encouragement directly. Unsolicited advice is often ill received. We are what we are. Though we are growing and evolving, it is compassionate to meet the other where they are. The line is thin between encouragement and overstepping. Or is it?

All I am saying, human relationships are messy and nuanced. It takes patience and much dedication to communicate and connect with each other in a meaningful way. It is important to ask questions instead of assuming. What we need may not be what others need.

I will start with myself. I need a lot of encouragement when it comes to my creative endeavors. So, go ahead and indulge me with your wonderful encouragement. Thank you:)

Now, your turn. I want to be a good friend to you. What do you need from a friend for your talents? What type of appreciation and support? I’d love to know.

See you in the next post. I send you love

Now, your turn, any thoughts? I care to know.
